The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) reported that for the sixth consecutive month, free zone exports reached historic levels despite the covid-19 pandemic. After growing 18.2% in December 2020, and 0.2% in January 2021, exports in February registered a growth of 4.4%, which represents an increase of US$ 520.59 million to US$ 543.57 million.
It is the best month of February in the entire history of the free zones. In February, the subsectors with the highest growth were tobacco manufacturing (cigars and cigarettes), which increased by 28%; jewelry, 19%, and textiles with a growth of (9.2%), a subsector that, like footwear and jewelry, has been one of the most affected by the conditions created by the pandemic.
